Introduction

This summer, I’ll be interning for Hey Jane, a telemedicine healthcare startup that aims to increase access to stigmatized health services, starting with abortion care. The company provides secure, text-based consultations to people up to 10 weeks pregnant seeking abortion care, and prescribes and sends abortion pills by mail to eligible patients. The company was founded on the belief that all people should be able to access safe, affordable abortion care if they need it, and that telemedicine and mail delivery can help to lower barriers to access. A fully virtual company, Hey Jane currently provides services in New York and Washington, though they have plans to expand to more states soon.

My background is largely in global heath, including sexual and reproductive health, and most of my work has been focused outside of the U.S., so I’m excited to be exploring abortion rights and access closer to home. I’ve also never worked for a startup before, and am interested in seeing how a for-profit, mission-driven company like Hey Jane can disrupt how care is traditionally delivered while increasing access. The team is small, mighty, and all women– I can’t wait to work and learn alongside them!
